The Marche coastline stretches from the promontory of Gabicce Mare at the mouth of the Tronto and is divided into two differently oriented, from the Monte Conero promontory that is the major uniqueness of the Adriatic coast north of Gargano. The coast could not escape the mutability that nature wanted to give the Marche landscape in every corner of its territory.

From the mouth of the creek Tavollo to that of Cesano, the coastline from Pesaro, known as the “Riviera of the hills”, offering 40 km. Of beaches. From Gabicce to Marotta, they are large and slow slope into the sea, mostly soft and sandy, without risks and dangers even for those not very experienced and swimming for children. To the north we find Gabicce Mare, a seaside resort on two floors down, lying on a small bay with a large beach, among many hotels and gardens, for the hours of the sun; while Gabicce Monte, on a scenic cliff full of vegetation, for the hours of the evening and night, with its restaurants, pizzerias and nights.
Pesaro, the sparkling city where the harmonies of the great sounds of mellow Gioachino Rossini, offers 8 Km. Of wide sandy beach – partly clear sea, partly sheltered by cliffs – and a quiet seaside life. Between Gabicce Mare and Pesaro, it stretches for about 20 Km., A charming panoramic road which crosses or touches picturesque fishing villages, overlooking the Adriatic on blue: Casteldimezzo of Focara, Santa Marina Alta. The whole area is part of the Regional Park of Mount San Bartolo, established in 1996, and has similar elements to that of M.Conero, although the cliffs are less harsh and rude, while retaining features of a wild landscape. The contrast between the sea side, more natural, and what lies on the hills, more man-to rural needs, it is to be discovered. The area has been designated as a wetland of national importance because it will overwinter numerous species of sea birds, while spring is interesting for migration. Particularly striking is the flowering bushes gives unparalleled smells and colors blending into the crystal clear blue-green water of the coast. Another scenic road unwinds on Ardizio Hill, between Pesaro and Fano, where the seashore again to be flat, linear and sandy beaches interrupted by short shingle.
Open to the most cordial and friendly are the two resort areas of Fano: the Lido, short and sandy north, and Saxony, long and gravel to the south, in the middle of the picturesque fishing port. Of ancient origin, Fanum Fortunae retains traces of its history and well defined. There are numerous cultural and artistic events that the town offers to its guests.
Between the Metauro and Cesano there are two more hospitable seaside resorts: Towers of Fano and Marotta Mondolfo, with the old fishing village, which is characterized by an unusual beach, partly gravel. Senigallia, with its 12 Km. Of white, fine sand, is a bathing holiday but its ancient origins (it was Sena Gallica, the ancient capital of the Gauls), is also history. Along its boulevards, already half ‘800 walked, or rather on passing cars, the aristocratic Romans and Austrians. The city has maintained that its old warm and welcoming attitude which together with its “velvet beach”, made her famous in Europe. Nearby almost a natural extension of its sandy beach is Marzocca. Continuing towards Ancona we can find other characteristic sea resorts.
A few kilometers from Montemarciano, originally the ancient city of Marziano, there is Marina with its fine beach and the remains of a fifteenth-century fortress; immediately after Falconara Marittima for the very conveniently located (near Ancona) it has become a junction point of the road, train and plane. It follows the beautiful beach of Palombina, modernly equipped and ideal destination for family tourism.
To Ancona, you may want a scenic walk to Passetto, one of the most scenic areas of the city, equipped with a fully equipped park and a double stairway that leads to the sea below. The uniform pattern of the beach suddenly returns to stop south of Ancona where the greenery of Mount Conero (the first regional Park founded in the Marche in 1987), which faces peremptorily on blue of the Adriatic Sea, offers a spectacle of rare beauty. It ‘a natural environment which extends for about 6000 hectares and includes the works of art, culture, history and various hiking trails that wind through the magic of the Mediterranean.
Here begins one of the most beautiful stretches of the entire Adriatic coastline coast: the “Conero Riviera”, with its alternation of sheltered beaches, the white sand and steep cliffs that plunge into the sea, sometimes only accessible by boat or with small paths. A scenic drive through all this area, often losing itself deeply into thick woods of pines, oaks, oaks and hornbeams. The gem of the coast, however, is the Bay of Portonovo, a wonder of nature still unspoiled, ideal choice for those looking for an amazing place to spend a quiet holiday. The landscape of Mount Conero (572 m.) Acquires lovely shades of color, especially in spring, in the period of flowering of the broom, and in the fall when it is cloaked in the warm colors of the arbutus (in greek Komaros, hence the name originally given to the promontory) .
Among the countless beaches that fringe the Conero slopes, sheltered from real rock walls, that “the Two Sisters” is definitely one of the prettiest corners of the Adriatic: two great rocky outcrops that emerge from the sea, at this point, assume color tones of an unusual delicacy. The popular resorts of the coast Ancona are all here, in the space of a few kilometers, Sirolo (awarded as the “Queen of the Italian beaches” from Legambiente Award in 1996), Numana, Marcelli. Sirolo has a picturesque location, overlooking the sea. It was a fortified castle still retains a half-timbered medieval layout of the structure. Headquarters of the regional park, to reach its small but enchanting beaches pass through a small forest. Numana, the ancient “Human,” which features a well-equipped marina, in recent years has had a significant tourist development also due to the sea always clean and its beautiful colors; Marcelli is the most modern area of the Riviera, with numerous resorts, residences and accommodation. To the south of Mount Conero, the coast becomes flat again and the beach tends to widen, for entire kilometers, through river mouths and coastal ponds.
Porto Recanati, the elegant “living room on the sea” immediately returns to the dominion of the Adriatic with a long sandy beach of 8 Km. That separates the town from the sea. Ancient fishing village formed around the fifteenth-century Castello Svevo, still retains characteristics and environments of the past who find themselves walking through its streets, accompanied by the smell of the sea. Beach and pine forest often run parallel, as frequently happens along the Marche coast, where the hill always is a counterpoint to the sea. This is true for Porto Potenza, south of Porto Recanati, where the hills favor a mild and temperate climate. Immediately find Civitanova Marche with its long beach divided by the fishing harbor and the tourist, who has contributed to the development of a tourism resort. The Roman “Cluana” resources from the ruins around Mille, giving birth to two settlements: Castel or Ripa Sancti Maroni and Civitanova Alta, the historic core of the town. there are numerous artistic and sporting events during the summer. The exhibition center, the multi-sports stadium, sailing and windsurfing complete the picture of this seaside resort that is proposed for all ages and for all needs. The geographical position and the convenient road connections mean that this city is also a strategic point for excursions inland or to easily reach the main towns of the region.
A South Porto Sant’Elpidio, an ancient fishing village, now an important industrial center and equipped seaside resort, marks the beginning of “Riviera Picena”, typical for its beaches of fine and homogenous sand, lapped by crystal clear sea and surrounded by gentle hills, the vivid Mediterranean flora.
A few kilometers away are Lido di Fermo and Porto San Giorgio, an important industrial, fishing and bathing (with a marina able to house 1,000 boat), it consists of a medieval and modern from the village core with its avenues, blooming gardens and a remarkable accommodation facilities and tourism. Further south meet Marina Palmense and Marina di Altidona, which in recent years have had a considerable expansion of tourism, while the terraced alluvial shelf at the Aso mouth, relax Pedaso, resort and agricultural center, where the long sandy coastline is partially interrupted by the presence of the rock. After Pedaso climate takes more typically Mediterranean character, encouraging the development of a flora of suffrutici and evergreen shrubs.
The first place that you touch is Cupra Marittima, consisting of a medieval core stretched on a hill overlooking the modern town, formed after 1890. For the beauty of the pine forest, the soft sand, the sweetness of the seabed and the tranquility of ‘ environment, Cupra Marittima is ideal for children’s holidays. The ancient village, still surrounded by the fifteenth and spopolatosi walls in the early years of the century, was rediscovered and restored as a venue for summer tourism.
From Grottammare to San Benedetto del Tronto and up to Porto d’Ascoli, extreme southern limit of the Marche, you will find wide sandy beaches framed in the fascinating backdrop of palm trees and oleanders, which characterize the so-called “Riviera delle Palme” rich in Mediterranean vegetation , sub-tropical and tropical, exotic essences and perfumes overseas. Grottammare consists of a medieval core (Monte Castle), a steep and picturesque side towards the sea, still walled enclosure, and a modern part with villas, hotels and beach resorts scattered across the green gardens and avenues. Interesting for the historical memories and natural beauty, the resort offers guests significant artistic and a spacious beach of fine sand and homogeneous, which introduces that long of San Benedetto del Tronto.
The largest seaside resort of the Piceno and one of the most important in Italy, is attended by a distinguished clientele also international, drawn upon the size and beauty of the sandy, from the restful green of the palm trees, oleanders and pine forests. modern and elegant resort, San Benedetto del Tronto incorporates an old residential complex that has a definite medieval character in the narrow and steep streets radiating from the Belvedere, on which stands the fourteenth-century Torre dei Gualtieri in elongated hexagonal plant. A special feature is that the Marche from the sea you can easily reach the many “high country” spread like a strategic balconies on the coast. Are the ancient historical centers from which later on the “marine centers”. Sometimes they rooted in the Piceno civilization and are marked by the remains of watchtowers, defense by the Saracens. And ‘the case of Gabicce Monte, the ancient Castellum Ligabitii; Fiorenzuola of Focara (whose name is reminiscent of the light signals of the fires, intended to mariners); of Pesaro castles such as Trebbiantico, Novilara (one of the most important settlements of the Piceno civilization) and Candelara (enclosed within the walls) .In the province of Ancona, stand Falconara Alta, defensive castrum of Falconara Marittima, the castle of Montemarciano and Numana, ancient port piceno. One of the best examples of the relationship between the seaside town and “high” country is to Civitanova Marche and Civitanova Alta. Further south, Porto San Giorgio, the oldest Naval Firmanorum, has an upstream part (the Castle district and the fortress outlined by Carlo Crivelli in the polyptych of Porto S. Giorgio) and, over the highway, marine.
A few kilometers away, we find Torre di Palme, a castle perched on a cliff overlooking the sea with the name Tower that still shows today as a watch tower. The sea and land dialogue emerges, perfect and intact even in the three centers of the extreme southern part of the Marche coast: Cupra Marittima with Marano, Grottammare Grottammare with High and San Benedetto del Tronto. In ancient times, ships sailed from the ports of the Marches to distant destinations, and for this reason the region has been defined, from the famous medievalist J. Le Goff, “a real bridge to the East.” Pesaro, Ancona and Senigallia were offices of major European exhibitions and still retain traces of these large-scale relationship. A turning point in the Marche coastal economic and urban framework took place during the ‘600 when the inhabitants of the hill towns closer to the sea began to transfer their families along the wide beaches, depending on the development of deep-sea fishing. Even today, the fishing fleets of San Benedetto del Tronto, Civitanova Marche, Ancona, Senigallia and Fano supply to the Italian market the fish, and practice deep-sea fishing, off the African coast. It is no coincidence that in the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions of Rome, the largest group of canopy models (sixteen) is just from San Benedetto del Tronto, in confirmation of an ancient civilization was born, marked and ennobled by the economy and fishery culture. The history of the sea and seafaring enthusiasts can satisfy their curiosity by visiting Pesaro, the Sea Museum, in Fano the Marine Biology Museum, in San Benedetto del Tronto the Museum of amphorae, the Antiquarian Truentinum, the Fishing Museum and Marine Civilization, the Fish Museum and Cupra Marittima the Piceno Malacological Museum, the largest museum in the world devoted to shells. In the seaside resorts of the region you can enjoy various water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing, sailing – with schools in the main towns – and underwater fishing particularly in Ancona, Vallugola, Portonovo, Sirolo, Numana and Pedaso.
Brands are able to offer a seaside tourism which is deeply turned and opened to the knowledge and enjoyment of the hinterland, which combines the sea with the natural beauty (as in the case of the Regional Park of Monte San Bartolo and that of Monte Conero) which proponesuggestivi routes in the “high country” or in the hinterland to discover the rich historical heritage – cultural. Its variety is certainly one of the “secrets” which form the diverse supply base that Marche grant to the tourist. Here family tourism has managed to integrate perfectly with the youth, thanks to the presence of structures able to provide services to everyone. The fact that the Marche seaside resorts are favorite destinations from the great mass tourism is certainly an advantage of this region which continues to offer actually a human scale, liveable, which have retained, almost intact, the extraordinary natural resources of the territory.
